After missing the playoffs in the year prior, Clear Creek bounced back with a vengeance in 2024, capturing the District 24-6A title and advancing to the Area Round of the postseason.
Entering this spring, the Wildcats have some familiar faces back on the diamond, with another year of experience under their belts to potentially propel them to repeat as district champs. The pitching staff will be headlined by senior right-hander Alex Bechler (Texas State-commit), who had an impressive 7-1 record and a 1.75 ERA, earning first-team all-district honors.
Defensively, 2024 first-team all-state selection Caden Schindler (San Jacinto JC) will patrol the infield and bring a potent bat to the lineup (.348 BA, 29 runs). Asa Sampson (Alvin CC-commit) offers versatility as a first-team all-district utility player, capable of filling multiple roles across the field.
Cooper Simonds (Sr. OF) will be another key contributor, along with second-team all-state honoree Ian Alper (Sr. RHP) and Zach Clark (Jr. RHP).

Before being named the official head coach last May, interim coach and Kingwood alumnus Michael Oros led the Mustangs to a continued sense of success, guiding them to their second consecutive district championship in 2024.
While their playoff run ended in the second round against Clear Springs, it serves as a solid foundation for Oros and his team to build on this spring.
To extend their dominance, the Mustangs will rely on a stifling pitching staff, led by senior right-hander Ben Mayorga and junior Will Fiedler. Mayorga, a LeTourneau University commit, posted a 7-2 record and a 1.95 ERA, while Fiedler was just as effective, finishing 7-1 with a 2.50 ERA. Both earned first-team, all-district honors. Offensively, Kingwood boasts second-team all-district selections Caden Callaway (Sr. IF/Cornell) and Brian Schumacher (Sr. OF/Panola JC), both of whom hit over .300 last season.
The lineup is further strengthened by Baylor-commit Graham Charboneau (Jr. OF/UTL). With a talented and experienced roster, the Mustangs are primed to challenge for a third consecutive district title and a potentially lengthy playoff run. Fun Fact: This June will mark the 20th anniversary of Kingwood’s 2005 State Championship, when they defeated Rockwall 10-5 at Dell Diamond.

It’s been over a decade since the Eagles made the program’s lone appearance in the UIL State Tournament (2013-14), but recent seasons suggest they’re not far from returning. In his first season as head coach, Jeremy O’Neill led Atascocita to a silver finish in the competitive 21-6A district and a postseason berth.
Unfortunately, their run ended in the third round against eventual State Finalist Pearland in a thrilling three game series. However, the Eagles return a solid core that bodes well for a third consecutive playoff appearance.
Junior Ty Higginbotham, the District Newcomer of the Year, shined with a 10-2 record and 89 strikeouts last season while also contributing at the plate with 21 RBIs and two home runs. Fellow junior Jaxon McKnight, named District Utility Player of the Year, posted similarly impressive numbers, including a .354 batting average, 26 RBIs, and one homer.
Additionally, second team all-district selections Angelo Volante (McMurry commit) and CJ Toney strengthen the outfield and lineup, while senior shortstop Jayden Hernandez (honorable mention) anchors the defense.
