The Prospectus
San Antonio Harlan advanced to the UIL 5A Division I area round in its first varsity season in 2018, and has 17 returning starters for another successful campaign in 2019. The Hawks will lean on defensive back Zane Svoboda, quarterback Kannon Williams, running back Aubrey McDade, receiver Jacory Logan and defensive linemen Jaden Jackson and Louis Cannon.
San Antonio Southwest won 10 games and advanced to the UIL 5A Division I area round in 2018, but will have some rebuilding to do with four returning starters in 2019. The Dragons need big seasons from receivers/defensive backs Makhi Johnson and Ricardo Coronado, quarterback/defensive back Matthew Luna, running back/linebacker Justin Vargas, linebacker/fullback Victor Torres, running back/defensive back Andre Mitchell and kicker Oscar Jimenez.
Laredo Martin won six games and played in a UIL 5A Division I bi-district playoff game in 2018, and has 14 returning starters to go further in the postseason in 2019. The Tigers will lean on running back Jose Castaneda, linebacker Sergio Ponce, defensive backs Miguel Vasquez and Mark Carreon and offensive lineman Javier Amador.
Eagle Pass Winn won six games during its non-playoff season in 2018, but is expected to grab a berth in 2019. The Mavericks have 13 returning starters, and notable players in quarterback Ethan Johnston, receiver Ernesto Vazquez, linebacker Alex Garcia and linemen Jaime Rodriguez and Alejandro Ontiveros.
Harlandale won six games and recorded a UIL 5A Division I bi-district finish in 2018, but only has seven returning starters in 2019. The Indians will need big years from receiver Joel Perez, quarterback Nicholas Veliz and linemen Ricardo Flores, Seth Vera and Nicholas Munoz.
Von Ormy Southwest Legacy didn't win a game in its first varsity season, but its 17 returning starters can lead it to the win column in 2019. The Titans have quarterback/linebacker Xavier Moreno, running back/linebacker Marcus Cantu, receiver Jorge Pineda and linemen Zachary Luna and Daniel Ornelas.
San Antonio McCollum won a single game in 2018, but can pick up more wins with its nine returning starters in 2019. The Cowboys have a quarterback in Ryan Ramirez, linebacker/running back Jared Luevanos, defensive back Jason Fernandez and offensive lineman Jovannie Cerda.
