One and done. One regular season finale last week to decide some district races in some cases; determine playoff seeding in others; or just to try and build some momentum heading into the postseason.
That final game did shake up our last Girls Power Rankings of the season a little bit, although not really at the top. The top seven teams stayed in-place, with Glenn holding the top spot followed closely by fellow Leander ISD school Vista Ridge. Too bad they’re 5A and 6A, as a playoff game between them would be fun.
We were also seriously tempted to move Vandegrift ahead of #3 Liberty Hill after the Lady Panthers’ home loss vs. Cedar Park. At the end of the day, however, they stayed where they were, (although the clutch win by the Lady Timberwolves was enough to elevate them back into the Top 10.) Bastrop also moved up a spot inside the Top 10.
The bottom third is where things got interesting. Austin High swiped a big win from Lake Travis to cause both of those teams to move in opposite directions. And a tip of the cap to Lago Vista, who hammered New Tech in their rematch to claw their way back into the final poll.
It’s been fun ranking these teams each week; trying to figure out which is the “better” team when A beats B, B beats C and C beats A. That’s all up for debate and interpretation. That speculation comes to an end starting Monday (2/10) when the 2024-25 Girls Basketball playoffs get underway.
We’ll leave you with this, our final Power Rankings of the season.
