It’s July 1st. With that comes the end of official visit season (June) and the beginning of commitment season as many Top 2025 recruits look to lock in their future homes before their senior year.
Today, Cy Falls' LB Kaleb Burns started off the commitment season with a bang announcing his decision.
“Texas Tech was the first school to ever offer me,” Burns said. “The relationship I have built with Coach Bookbinder, Coach DeRuyter and Coach McGuire has been the biggest thing. They have been on me since the jump and I know they can develop me as a player and man there.”
The 3-star linebacker committed to Texas Tech over SMU and Baylor.
“I’m excited to see the new jerseys, excited for to start my new path and excited to be a Red Raider!," he said. "Their plan for me is to play me at the "Will" position, which will allow me to make a lot of plays for the defense. They were comparing me to Terrell Bernard, which I think is a great comparison, so I’m excited for their development plan for me.”
Burns chose the Red Raiders over fellow in-state school’s Baylor and SMU, which was a point of emphasis for him being able to play in Texas.
“It means a lot to stay in state," he said. "Being able to still move around and stay in Texas was a big deal for me.”
Now committed, Burns is excited for a big senior year wearing the green and gold for the last time.
“I’m looking to go back-to-back winning Defensive MVP," he said. "We want to come into the new district and win it, before making a deep playoff run. I’m locked in ready for one last year with my teammates.”
The Red Raiders are getting a good one in Burns, who is excited to head to Lubbock to continue his playing career.
