With Abby Montemayor and Avery Arzayus back in the fold, the Lutheran South Pioneer program has a shot at a district title. They are one of the most lethal pair of private school scorers in the city.
Hope Huber and Avery Davis hold down the goaltending roles.
Kiah Johnson will open the seventh high school in the Lamar Consolidated ISD... Gene Tomas High School.
He will be tasked to do it quickly at Tomas will play varsity sports in everything but football this fall of 2025.
Johnson has been the head football coach and campus coordinator as Lamar Consolidated High School since 2022. The Elsik High graduate played his college ball at Texas A&M-Kingsville, before playing for the Chicago Bears.
His brother, Rashard Lewis, played 14 years in the NBA after being drafted right out of Elsik High.
VYPE's Matt Malatesta caught up with the first-ever coach of Tomas High School as he begins this new journey of opening up this Class 5A school.
His sister Matte was a star softball player at Katy and ULL as well.
Dad, Kalum won 850 games as a high school softball coach... mostly at Katy High (26 years), where he won a pair of State Titles. Mom, Leslie, is the Deputy Superintendent for Katy ISD.
Needless to say, Brooks Haack - at 31 years of age - is built to be a head coach.
Did we mention, Haack was the assistant head coach and offensive coordinator at Randle High School, where he helped lead the Lions to a 14-0 season and a Class 5A DII State Title?

Atascocita’s Cardae Mack first emerged as a sophomore.
After watching Mack dice up state power Katy in a non-district matchup, it was easy to see the talented RB had a bright future ahead of him.
Going into his junior offseason, Mack is one of the most sought-after recruits in the state, holding 17 offers from Division 1 programs.
As a junior this past fall, Mack was thrown in at the QB position, while also having Oklahoma-signee Tory Blaylock in the backfield.
Mack ended up with 1,864 passing yards with 18 passing touchdowns while rushing for 1,918 yards with 22 touchdowns. For Mack, he was all about doing what the team needed to win.
“I feel like my junior year was great,” Mack said. “Playing quarterback was an adjustment, especially after the Katy game. I realized this was like playing running back, but I can just throw the ball also.”
As he has entered his junior offseason, the heat is on as far as his recruitment goes as many schools are vying to get the star athlete on campus for an official visit.
“It’s just felt like a lot more love from all the schools,” he said. “My biggest thing is relationships... the programs who have built the best relationships with me are the ones I’m rocking with.”
Among the schools going after Mack, six programs have emerged.
“Texas Tech, Oregon, Arizona State, Stanford, Ole Miss, USC, SMU, and Houston are all schools that have stood out so far," he said. "All those schools have watched my film and tell me how they would use my game in their program.”
As February comes and official visit season slowly approaches, Mack mentioned he plans on setting up official visits to Oregon, Arizona State, Texas Tech, and Houston with a timeline of committing before his senior year.
Cardae Mack is one of the most dynamic playmakers in the state of Texas, so expect a big final encore.
“I’m coming for it all this year,” Mack said. “I want to bring a State Championship back to the A (Atascocita), whether it's at running back or quarterback. I want to do my part to get us to Jerry’s World.”
