Cy Falls linebacker Kaleb Burns is a name capturing a lot of buzz this offseason.
The District 16-6A Defensive MVP finished the year with 86 tackles, 26 tackles for loss, 7 sacks and 1 Interception. His play on the field has led to his recruitment heating up this recruiting period.
“It’s be going really good for me,” he said. “Every coach has been treating my family and I great. It’s just been amazing how fast this is happening.”
He has picked up offers from Baylor, Maryland, Pitt, SMU, Tennessee, Texas Tech, UNLV, Houston and most recently Oregon State.
Burns wasn’t able to play on day one of the DR7 Tournament because he was at the University of Houston Junior Day, where he had nothing but good things to say about new head coach Willie Fritz and staff.
“I feel like he (Coach Fritz) is doing good right now,” Burns said. “I was reoffered by the staff and I think they’re going to be a good team while he’s there. They treated me and my family well, so it was a good visit.”
The junior also mentioned he will be visiting Baylor and SMU in the coming weeks, and also said a few new schools have been in contact as of late.
“TCU, Texas and Cal have been in touch with me a lot lately along with some other Power 5 schools," he said.
As far as the tournament went, Burns was impressive. He showed his athleticism and ability to play in coverage which is important in today’s game at the linebacker position.
“I really can showcase what I can do in 7-on-7," he said. "It gives me the ability to work on my drops and reading route concepts, which will prepare me when I’m on the field next Fall and at the next level.”
Kaleb Burns is a rising star at Cy Falls. Expect his offer list to grow and a rise in the rankings this offseason.
