Barring any weather impact from Tropical Storm Marco or Laura, this Friday is slated to be the opening night of the 2020 Texas high school football season.
Class 4A programs and down can play their first real football games this week. One of those showdowns sends Splendora up to Tyler to take on Chapel Hill. These are two programs who could see each other come the playoffs, but this game is special because of the head coaches involved.
Splendora is led by Marcus Schulz, while Chapel Hill is under the direction of Jeff Riordan. Rewind to their college playing days, Schulz and Riordan were teammates at Austin College, where a lifelong friendship developed.
Recently, VYPE caught up with both of the coaches in the same interview, which provided some fantastic moments between the two friends who's teams will face-off on Friday. The friendly jostling started from the very beginning and is worth the watch.
