Preparations for week three of Texas High School Football are underway as teams across the state gear up for tough matchups. In the San Antonio area, one matchup fans are ready to see is the Smithson Valley Rangers vs. the East Central Hornets. VYPE takes a look at these two teams and what fans can expect heading into this showdown!
East Central Hornets (0-2)
The Hornets are having a rocky start to their season so far. Dropping their first two games against San Antonio Harlan (45-20) and San Antonio Roosevelt (31-21), the team has had to work through tough moments on the field. Regrouping and gearing up for the next moment, the Hornets have continued to fight despite their tough moments. Led by the likes of Austin Vivier, Aden Willis, Isaiah Mackey, DeAnthony Anderson, Joe Hubbard IV, Travis Williams, Kaleb Ramos, Myron Robinson, Jayden Cardenas, and more, the team will be fired up as they head into a matchup with Smithson Valley this week.
Smithson Valley Rangers (1-1)
After a season-opening, hard-fought 17-16 loss against San Antonio Reagan, Smithson Valley posted a 27-10 victory last week against Harker Heights. Showcasing their ability to regroup and bounce back, the Rangers have been able to produce big plays against tough opposing athletes already this season. Led by the likes of Jackson Duffey, Clayton Amaya, Ryland Walker, Cade Spradling, Jaxson Maynard, Bradley Sowersby, Rylan Vela, William Mack, Caleb Sosa, and more, the team has remained fired up and ready for anything.
What To Expect
In a revenge match from last season's week 3 matchup, East Central is going to want to redeem themselves. Last year Smithson Valley posted a dominating 45-7 victory over the Hornets. East Central is driven and prepared to put up a fight as they enter the field against the Rangers. Coming off of an undefeated district record last year followed by a deep playoff run, Smithson Valley is geared up to prove their ability again this season. The team will look at a fast-paced style of offense to put up points early and often.
Kick-off is slated for 7 p.m. at Smithson Valley on Friday, September 8th.
