With a birth in the TAPPS state playoffs on the line Hyde Park was able to defeat Victoria St. Joes 46-40 on Friday night at the Quarries. St. Joes scored first on a 25 yard pass play but was unable to covert the extra point. Hyde Park answered with a 37 yard Adam Selensky field goal.
The teams would trade touchdowns through out the rest of the half but a interception just before the half by Jack Krueger gave the Panthers the ball at midfield with .30 seconds left in the half.
QB Caleb Petersen then threw a pass in the flat to Jack Bradock who looked like he would go out of bounds but instead cut back up the field and took it to the two yard line where freshman Houston Shaw would punch it in to add to Hyde Parks lead to 31-20 at the half.
Hyde Park woukd add to the lead with Jackson Whitcomb 25 yard touchdown catch. St Joe's added a touchdown but a failed 2 point try ended the 3rd quarter with Hyde Park leading 38-26.
St. Joes added a Didric Callie TD run but a spectacular JD Richards TD catch and Richards catch for a 2 point conversion gave Hyde Park a 46-32 lead. St. Joes added a Joe Maroquin TD catch but a recovered onside kick by Hyde Parks Houston Shaw iced the game for Hyde Park who is now 9-1 at home the last two years.
Hyde Park will travel to Fort Bend Christian Academy next week for a first round playoff game against the defending Champion Eagles.
