STATE PREVIEW: Canton softball punches historic ticket to state tournament

History has been made for the Canton Eaglettes as they punched their ticket to the UIL Class 4A Softball State Tournament. As the team prepares to take on Liberty softball, VYPE DFW takes a look at their season so far and just what fans can expect from this squad!

So Far:

The Eaglettes have had incredible performances so far this season; helping to guide them to playoff success! Led by talented athletes like Katrina Morphis, Amrie Clower, Chloe Howe, Kara Pride, Rylee Busby, Payton Bray, Payton Goodson, Jaycee Bullard, Grace Thompson, and more, the team started their season with powerful, statement victories in non-district play against the likes of Duncanville (9-3), Gilmer (6-5, 7-0), Bullard (4-2), Mt. Pleasant (15-6), and more before opening up district play.

Once in district, the team showed no signs of slowing down as they finished at the top of their district standings with an undefeated district record (8-0). A powerful offense combined with a defense that is focused and determined to finish the job through each game helped guide Canton to big victories over the likes of Wills Point (22-5), Kaufman (17-1), Mabank (15-0), and more throughout regular season play.

Once in the playoffs, Canton showed no mercy as they took down Ferris (12-2, 11-0), Athens (14-0, 14-4), Lindale (9-1, 9-1), Van Alstyne (10-0, 6-3), and finally Aubrey (11-4, 14-1) in order to punch their ticket to the state tournament.

What To Expect:

Canton has the determination that will continue to drive them forward through the state tournament. Making history is one thing, but continuing to show up and show out every single day is another. With drive and determination through practice as well as games, it is clear that this team has what it takes to take down opponents who stand in their way of finishing out their goals.

The team is taking on Liberty in the semifinals; a squad that is boasting a 40-2 overall record and is no stranger to this level of play. Liberty has been to the state tournament five of the last seven seasons, winning it all in 2018, 2021, and 2022. Determined to get back to the state finals for another ring, this team is going to be a tough squad to beat.

Fans can expect this semifinals pairing to be a tough, exciting one. Be sure you catch all the action with the game beginning at 7 p.m. on Thursday, May 30 at Red and Charline McComb's Field in Austin, Texas!
