Cedar Park chews up Chaparral

It was a long night the last time Cedar Park travelled to Killeen’s Joseph Searles Stadium as the Timberwolves suffered a 45-43 double-overtime loss to Harker Heights to open the season.

Fast-forward nearly a month and the Timberwolves were back in town. This time, Coach Michael Quintero’s squad dispatched the Killeen Chaparral Bobcats 44-12 in the District 8-5A-1 opener for both teams.

Ben Ramos’ 21-yard field goal and Lucas Viloria’s 3-yard touchdown run staked the T’wolves to a 10-0 lead after the opening frame. Following a Bobcat touchdown, Trae Hill (21-98, 3 TDs) scored the first of his three touchdowns to give Cedar Park a 17-6 lead at the half.

Hill would score again from 25 and 21 yards out, alternating with touchdown passes from David Cooper (17-31, 219 yds, 2 TDs) to Zane Claybrook and Jamall Porter.

Meanwhile, the Black Rain defense did its part, holding Chaparral to just 218 yards of total offense, much of that coming late in the game.

Cedar Park (1-0, 3-2) hosts Rouse (1-0, 2-2) in a key District 8-5A-1 matchup from Gupton Stadium in Friday night’s VYPE/ESPN Austin radio Central Texas High School Football Game of the Week on 102.7 FM.
