In their first state tournament appearance, the Colleyville Heritage Lady Panthers volleyball program went the distance in order to cap off their season with a state title. Before making it to the state final, the Lady Panthers swept Montgomery Lake Creek- making it look easy on the court. As they stepped on the floor to go head-to-head against another DFW-area team, Frisco Reedy, the Lady Panthers knew that they had the skill and heart to bring home a victory.
Speaking to the strength of his team as a whole, Colleyville Hertage head coach Josh McKinney talked a little bit about the heart of the entire team following their semifinal victory over Lake Creek. "We're 18 strong..." McKinney said alluding to the idea that the team is more than just the athletes on the court. With unmatched energy on the court and on the bench, the Lady Panthers brought the heat in the state title match.
The Lady Panthers won the first set 25-14 before Frisco Reedy posted a set two victory defeating the Panthers in a close 25-23 set. With the drive to finish strong paired with incredible leadership, the Lady Panthers posted a 25-18 third set and a 25-20 fourth set to finish the season as the UIL Class 4A Volleyball State Champions. Colleyville Heritage senior Morgan Howard was awarded the UIL State 5A Championship Match MVP after tallying three kills, 17 digs, and 51 assists.
