Someone has to be first.
Cypress Ranch's Romario Noel is a 6-foot-2 defensive back who patrols the back end of the Mustangs' stingy defense, which gave up only 270 yards per game en route to a district title.
"I've really only played football for three years," Noel said. "My dad is in the Armed Forces and overseas sometimes and my mom is a nurse and works a lot. I didn't really play sports because I didn't have a ride to get to practices or games.
"When I got to high school, I had some great coaches and older defensive backs who really taught me everything I know now," he said.
Noel was the first Baylor Bear commit for the Class of 2021. The Baylor Bears have grabbed some serious headlines this fall, virtually an overtime loss to Oklahoma away from being in the College Football Playoff.
"I was at the Opening Combine and did pretty well," he said. "I got home and coach (Shawn) Bell called and offered me. I was shocked. I've been up to Baylor like six times since then and I just catch a family vibe there. I think they are going to develop me into a great player."
It's been the Baylor defense under the direction of coach Matt Rhule and DC Phil Snow, which has been the big story.
Could Noel be the next big thing as a leader of the formidable Baylor defense starting in the Fall of 2021?
