Liberty Hill pretty much took over the Friday night 102.7 FM ESPN Austin airwaves for a few weeks after Thanksgiving last year.
You get a lot of extra air time when you embark on yet another deep playoff run that ended with a crushing 42-25 loss to Port Neches-Groves in the State Semifinal game.
It’s familiar territory for Coach Kent Walker’s squad. The Panthers, who recorded back-to-back State Titles in 2006 and 2007 under legendary former head coach Jerry Vance, also reached the Semifinals in 2022 and came up just short in the State Championship game vs. South Oak Cliff in 2021.
Liberty Hill was scheduled to be back on ESPN Austin radio against former district rival Rouse Friday night from Panther Stadium, but that broadcast has been pre-empted by NFL Football from Brazil – the only Friday this fall without high school football on 102.7 FM.
Even so, it remains the VYPE Central Texas High School Football Game of the Week and will stream as always on VYPE.com.
As per usual, the Panthers (0-1) will live or die with their trademark Slot-T offense. Liberty Hill notched 416 yards of total offense – all on the ground, going 0-3 in passing – when they punched above their weight against 6A Cibolo Steele, falling 49-26 to open their season.
Junior quarterback Jack Pitchford leads a tricky who-has-the-ball ground game that also features Dj Seaborn, Kyle May and Bryce Muchaw while defensive end Alister Vallejo leads the defense.
Coach Joshua Mann’s Rouse Raiders bring a ton of players back from last year’s 8-4 Area finalists. Junior quarterback London Morgan threw for three touchdowns and ran for a fourth to pace the Raiders (1-0) to an impressive 57-10 blowout win over Pflugerville Connally.
