Grandview Outlasts Pottsboro for 2nd Straight State Title

ARLINGTON - For the second straight season, Grandview stands atop the 3A Division I mountain as it used five rushing touchdowns from Tremayne Gullatte and 372 total yards from Dan Jentsch in a 42-35 win over Pottsboro.

In a high-scoring affair, it was a fumble in the first quarter that essentially turned the tide in Grandview's (15-1) favor. Grandview had just tied the score at 7 when it forced Cy Shope to fumble on Pottsboro's (15-1) next possession, which set Grandview up in plus-territory. Four plays and 42 yards later, Gullatte rumbled in for his second score.

It would be a lead Grandview would no relinquish, stretching it to as much as 14 four times. Each time that happened, Pottsboro would go down the field and answer to bring the game back to within one score.

The fourth quarter turned into the Braden Plyler show as he hit Titus Lyons for a 53-yard bomb and a 19-yard run for a score.

At 35-28, Grandview drove the ball 84 yards on 11 plays as Gullatte scored his fifth touchdown of the night to make it 42-28 with 3:34 left.

Still, the two Pottsboro turnovers was too much to overcome in a close game as Jentsch was named offensive and defensive MVPs for the second straight year. He later said in the postgame that he gave his offensive award to Gullatte after he missed the opportunity to play in last year's state title.
