Friday night saw high tensions as the Rockwall Yellowjackets traveled to Highland Park in a Week 4 match-up. Despite a strong start to the game, the Yellowjackets were unable to keep their fight alive against a strong Scots squad. Highland Park defeated Rockwall 52-31.
It was a battle from start to finish. Rockwall got on the board first- a score that was quickly answered by Highland Park and we had a back and forth game until the second quarter when Rockwall's Caiden Robinson scored a pick-six on an 8-yard interception return. The very next play is where tensions rose. Highland Park's John Rutledge returned the kickoff all the way to the house for an 89-yard touchdown. Heading into halftime the score was 24-24.
The second half saw a back and forth game with the Jackets and Scots going punch for punch out of the game, but the Scots' defense found a way to put a stop to Rockwall's offensive excellence. Soon, with the usual Highland Park strength, the Scots were beginning to pull away from Rockwall.
Highland Park forced two turnovers while holding Rockwall's offense to 364 total yards on the game. Highland Park quarterback Brennan Storer completed 85% of his passes to tally 227 passing yards and three touchdowns. On the receiving end of Storer's touchdown passes were Jackson Heis (72 yards, three catches, one touchdown), Luke Herring (47 yards, four catches, one touchdown), and John Rutledge (46 yards, three catches, one touchdown). Scoring on the ground were Christian Reeves (114 yards, 17 carries, one touchdown), Ben Croasdale (47 yards, 11 carries, one touchdown), and Storer (34 yards, eight carries, one touchdown).
