Coming off an open week, Little Cypress-Mauriceville looks at their upcoming district game against Bridge City as an opportunity to hit the ground running. The Bears are coming off a big win over Hardin-Jefferson (29-14) on September 27th.
The Bears will have ready one of the top players in District 11-4A in quarterback Ethan McCollum. The senior slinger is #2 in passing yards with 547 (6TD's) and #4 in rush yards at 289 (1TD). Bridge City enters the game sixth in defense giving up a total of 415 yds per contest.
"Ethan's done well for us this year, he's progresses every week, he came off a knee injury last year and we're hoping he can get back to where he was. He's doing a good job."
After two straight losses to solid teams of West Orange-Stark (14-36) and Jasper (42-14) the Bears came out strong versus H-J, particularly the defense. Senior DJ Spears is leading the team with two interceptions as their rush defense averages only 78 yards a game.
"When it's time to play the district season you need to have everyone in the right place where you need them and you're going on all cylinders. You have to be ready every week in this district.
The Bears take on the Bridge City Cardinals Friday night, October 11, at 7pm in Orange.
