Heading into Lufkin's Week 6 showdown with Magnolia, Caleb Encarnacion had made two field goals on the season.
The junior kicker was the best kicker in District 8-5A-DI having made 19 extra points and the two field goals and en route to a 24-18 victory for the Panthers, Encarnacion was the key.
Encarnacion first nailed 38-yard and 25-yard field goals in the first half, giving Lufkin the 6-0 lead at the break. The two field goals had already matched his season high.
Later in the night, the game tied at 12-12 with 8:58 remaining, Encarnacion nailed his third field goal of the night. This one from 33 yards gave the Panthers the 15-12 lead.
With 2:27 left in the game, leading 21-18, Lufkin needed that final exclamation point to put them up by at least six. Encarnacion delivered from 23 yards, putting the Panthers up 24-18, which would be the final.
Entering the game, the kicker who had made two field goals all season ends up kicking four (38, 25, 33, 23) to score 12 of the Panthers' eventual 24 points.
Now, that's a clutch kicker.
