Ridge Point football coach Brett Sniffin leaves for Belton High job

HOUSTON - Ridge Point will be looking for a new head coach for the first time since the school played its inaugural season.

On Wednesday, Dave Campbell's Texas Football's Matt Stepp Matt Stepp first reported that Brett Sniffin, the only coach in program history, would be leaving Fort Bend Ridge Point for the opening at Belton High School.

Sniffin just completed his eighth season at the helm of the Ridge Point Panthers' football team. In his eight-year tenure, Sniffin posted a 75-22 overall record and won five district championships. Under his direction, Fort Bend Ridge Point posted a pair of undefeated regular seasons, going 10-0 in 2014 and 2016. The best season for the Panthers came in 2015 when Ridge Point was one win away from playing for a state championship, falling to Cedar Park in the State Semifinals.

Sniffin released a statement through the team's Twitter account on Wednesday afternoon.

"To all the players t hat put the helmet on I thank you from the bottom of my heart for giving everything you had for us," the statement read. "I am still here for each of you. I am moving on to a smaller town and school district in a part of the state I want to finish my career in. RP Football will always be good as it is the players that make a team not the coaches."

Sniffin will be taking over a Belton program that went 3-7 this past season and missed the playoffs for the first time since 2013.
