THE RECAP: Liberty Hill falls to Steele Curtain; Now turn attention to Rouse

Not only did 5A powerhouse Liberty Hill schedule one of Central Texas’ strongest 6A programs in Cibolo Steele to open their 2024 season, but they did so on the road.

To their credit, Coach Kent Walker’s Panthers hung in early, battling the Knights to a 14-14 draw midway through the second quarter at Lehnhoff Stadium in Schertz. But then the hosts scored 35 straight points to overwhelm the Panthers en route to a 49-26 win.

True to form, Liberty Hill relied on their vaunted Slot-T ground game to the tune of 416 yards on 61 carries. Junior DJ Seaborn (11-124, 2 TDs) paced the Panthers while junior quarterback Jack Pitchford (12-93, TD) and senior Kyle May (13-83, TD) also notched solid nights.
