Top 9 Boys, Top 9 Girls DFW Hoops Game for January 24

It's another Friday night full of entertaining games across the DFW hoops landscape. District races are slowly starting sort themselves out while others are still just getting underway with maybe a couple or three games played.

There are 18 games to showcase across our fair berg - nine boys games and nine girls games - from 6A down to 3A that feature a number of teams in this week's installment of our DFW Hoops Power Rankings.

BOYS

#6 Waxahachie (18-4, 5-1) vs. #5 South Grand Prairie (19-6, 4-2): Both teams enter still ranked in our 6A Top 10 despite both dropping a game last week - Waxahachie to ranked Grand Prairie and SGP to unranked DeSoto. Still, this will be a good matchup between 7-6A's second and third place teams.

North Crowley (21-6, 8-1) vs. Arlington Bowie (15-6, 6-3): Bowie is on a three-game win streak and sits in the fourth spot out of 4-6A. North Crowley bounced back on Tuesday with a win over Arlington after losing last week to Arlington Lamar - something both teams share. NC is currently in second place in district.

McKinney (14-5, 5-1) vs. #4 Allen (22-4, 6-0): It's a 1-vs-2 matchup in 9-6A play as Allen enters on a six-game win streak (by an average of 14.2 points) and McKinney has won five of its last six.

Mesquite Horn (18-9, 4-1) vs. Rockwall (15-10, 4-1): 11-6A also has a 1-vs-2 matchup on Friday night as Horn owns a three-game win streak and Rockwall has won six of its past seven.

#7 Burleson Centennial (21-5, 5-1) vs. Arlington Seguin (13-9, 4-2): It's a matchup of teams currently occupying playoff spots in 5-5A. Burleson suffered its first district loss last time out and Arlington Seguin is on a two-game district skid after starting 4-0.

Saginaw (12-5, 4-2) vs. Fort Worth Brewer (16-7, 4-2): A battle of two 4-2 teams in 7-5A that will give the winning team an inside track to third place in the district standings.

#4 Argyle (13-3, 0-1) vs. #1 Decatur (19-7, 1-0): This is arguably the best game on the slate on the boys side when the two 8-4A team square off in a Top 10 matchup. Decatur has won three straight, holding those opponents to 36 points a game.

Kennedale (17-8, 3-1) vs. #8 Fort Worth Western Hills (11-8, 3-1): It's another 1-vs-2 matchup in 9-4A play. Western Hills jumped into this week's Top 10 after thrashing Dunbar and Diamond Hill-Jarvis but then lost to Benbrook on Wednesday, a team Kennedale beat last week.

Gunter (22-4, 3-2) vs. #6 Ponder (15-10, 4-1): Both teams are in the playoff hunt as Ponder is the two-spot and Gunter in the four-spot. Gunter could move into third with a win while Ponder could put some good distance between it and Pilot Point, if it loses to Whitesboro.

GIRLS

#3 DeSoto (24-2, 7-1) vs. #10 Cedar Hill (19-7, 4-2): For the second straight week, 7-6A has the spotlight on the girls side with a Top 10 matchup. DeSoto is on a six-game win streak winning by an average of 41.3 points during that span, including a 97-14 win over Grand Prairie earlier this month.

#5 Denton Guyer (24-4, 8-0) vs. Southlake Carroll (19-9, 4-3): Guyer sits atop 5-6A undefeated with five games left on the calendar. It has won seven straight having scored an average of 56.7 points in that streak. Caroll is in third in district after seeing its six-game win streak end this week to Keller.

Allen (21-9, 6-1) vs. McKinney (15-7, 6-2): The two middle teams in the 9-6A standings square off in a similarly high-profile matchup like the boys counterparts. McKinney is on a five-game win streak having not score less than 50 in those games. Allen was held down by Plano's stall offense earlier this week, only scoring 25 points in defeat.

#6 Lake Dallas (13-5, 5-1) vs. The Colony (15-10, 5-2): The Colony once again faces a ranked 8-5A opponent on Friday night, a week after falling to No. 1 Braswell. It already bounced back with a close win over Little Elm and can swap places with Lake Dallas with a win. Lake Dallas owns a 3-game win streak after eking past Denton Ryan last Friday.

Frisco Reedy (16-8, 8-4) vs. #5 Frisco Liberty (17-9, 12-0): Reedy can really help its playoff cause with a win over a team that is rolling. Liberty has won six straight and is undefeated in district 9-5A play, including a 46-26 win over Reedy in mid December.

#9 Lovejoy (17-12, 3-1) vs. #10 McKinney North (15-7, 3-1): Both teams were newbies in this week's Top 10 5A rankings and are tied atop the 10-5A rankings. At worst, one will still be tied with Wylie East; at best, one will be alone at the top of the district standings.

Dallas Spruce (13-9, 7-0) vs. Dallas South Oak Cliff (16-12, 6-1): It's a 1-vs-2 matchup in this 12-5A matchup as SOC can avenge its only district loss, which occurred back in mid-December in a 45-35 loss.

#3 Argyle (23-5, 3-0) vs. #2 Decatur (25-4, 2-1): Just like the boys, this might very well be the best matchup on the girls side. Argyle has won seven straight, including a comeback, overtime win over Krum earlier this week. Decatur is looking to get back into the win column after a 5-game win streak was snapped by Bridgeport earlier in the week.

Gunter (18-11, 6-1) vs. #6 Ponder (18-10, 6-1): The two top teams in 9-3A square off for the second time this year as Ponder won the first meeting. It's very possible the winner of this game will win the district crown.
