Michaela Francois helped open Pflugerville Weiss High School in 2017, and is already one of its athletic leaders. That's evident because she recently won the VYPE Austin UIL Girls Track Athlete Of The Year Poll with 36,732of the 155,837 total votes.
"It felt great to know how many people felt that I deserved to win the poll," said Francois. "And the amount of support that I got was amazing and makes me feel honored."
Francois' resume speaks for itself. She advanced to UIL 4A state as a freshman, and won Weiss' first track state championship event at the UIL 5A meet as a sophomore. Both came in the 100 meter dash.
"It meant a lot to me because being the first is something to be happy about, even when the school has been open for two years," she said.
Francois obviously has a lot of confidence going into the second half of her high school career, so she plans to push herself to new heights.
"The things I am currently working on [are] to still make it to state my last two years of high school, run an 11.5 or 11.4 these next years, and to learn how to be a leader on and off the track," she said. "I would [also] love to compete in college. Being able to compete at a higher level has been a dream of mine."
You can expect Francois to put in the necessary training to reach these goals, but she also knows how to relax after a successful session.
"I spend most of my time with my friends watching movies, playing [NBA] 2K, or just chill[ing] and talk[ing]," she said. "I also spend some of my time baking and cooking."
