Avery Calame recently won the DFW Volleyball Preseason Outside Hitter of the Year Poll. VYPE caught up with Calame for the 411 on the star from McKinney Boyd.
VYPE: How long have you been playing Volleyball and how did you get your start?
Calame: I've been playing volleyball for about 9 years now. I started when a few girls at my school wanted to make a PSA volleyball team. (I've been playing at Madfrog Volleyball all of my club years)
VYPE: Go-to pregame meal? Routine?
Calame: My go to pregame meal is definitely pasta salad. During high school I'm routine on game day consisted of me going to class, going home and eating/doing homework, going to serve and pass, and then playing!
VYPE: Favorite subject in school?
Calame: My favorite subject in school I would say is English.
VYPE: What's your biggest strength? Or What do You Bring to Your Team?
Calame: In my opinion my biggest strength is the fact that I am left handed hitting on the left side, I feel like that gives the blockers and defense a different look than the typical right handed outside.
VYPE: Off the field, what is your favorite thing to do?
Calame: When I'm not playing volleyball I like to hangout with friends, go fishing, and play/watch my little brothers!
VYPE: What has been your greatest HS memory so far?Calame: My greatest high school memory so far is definitely when my freshman year we (Mckinney Boyd) beat our rivals (Mckinney High) in 5 sets with the 5th set being 15-13!
