West Brook routs BU in Alumni Bowl moves to 6-0

With a stifling defense and an offense that kept churning out big plays, the West Brook Bruins hammered the previously unbeaten Beaumont United Timberwolves 46-23 Saturday night at Beaumont ISD Memorial Stadium. It was the second straight win for West Brook over BU in the annual game pitting both of Beaumont's 6A teams together.

The win continues West Brook's undefeated season as they will host Channelview this Friday night.

"Troy (Yowman) continuously does a great job of stepping up in the pocket and delivering good balls in the blitz," said Bruins head coach Eric Peevey.

"We knew coming in that there were going to be some mismatches with their defense. Our offensive coordinator, Jeff Breaux, does a great job of putting kids in situations where they can be successful. They didn't adjust until the second half so we kept going to the cookie jar."

The senior Yowman was tremendous all night as he would throw for five touchdowns and 371 yards on 30 attempts. His favorite target was Thad Johnson (WR, 2020) as the pair combined for 12 receptions, 175 yards and three touchdowns.

After allowing 16 first-half points to a fast and athletic BU team, the Bruin defense came up strong in the second half allowing only a third quarter touchdown to make the score 39-23. The Bruins were never threatened as they finished off the game with a La'damian Brown touchdown with three minutes to go.

"The biggest problem we had in the second half was our penalties," said Peevey.

"We just kept shooting ourselves in the foot with silly penalties. We could have really put the foot down on the gas but we made some bonehead mistakes that we have to get better at."

Channelview comes into this weeks matchup 1-1 in district play with a home win over Sterling 41-14.

"We've got one day to get ready for a Channelview offense that's really good, Coach Hurts has done a great job. Last year they're in the playoffs and hung 50 points up on Atascocita, they've got the ability to put up points."

Kickoff is scheduled for 7pm Friday night at Beaumont ISD Memorial Stadium.
