The Falcons secured the No. 3 spot in the always-competitive Katy district last season, advancing to the second round of the playoffs before falling to eventual Region III Finalist Cy-Fair in three games.
Coach Kyle Humphreys – who surpassed 300 career wins last spring – knows what his team is capable of, and they’re likely to remind audiences in the coming months. Junior Nic Piazza, who earned District 19-6A Newcomer of the Year honors after batting .398, is a key returner.
Piazza contributes not only at the plate but also as a versatile outfielder, pitcher, and first baseman. Junior 3B Ian Palacios (.308 BA) is another reliable bat, following up a second-team all-district season. Alongside him, junior shortstop Daylen Foor and sophomore outfielder Cash Wilson will continue to set the table by getting on base.
Senior catcher Lucian Albright is expected to impact both sides of the game, while senior right-hander Chase Simon (Odessa College commit) returns as the ace of the pitching staff.
After finishing 2024 with an 8-1 record and a 2.31 ERA, Simon will be relied upon to anchor the staff and lead the Falcons to what could be an extensive run in the postseason
Though the 2024 season had its ups and downs, a strong finish to district play pushed The Woodlands Highlanders back into playoff contention. However, after sweeping Aldine in the first round, they were eliminated by Bridgeland in a tight three-game series.
While that result might seem acceptable to some, the Highlanders’ storied program is aiming for more in 2025. Senior RHP/1B Erich Daigle, a first-team allstate nominee and Wharton County JC commit, returns to lead the team both on the mound and at the plate.
He’ll be supported by senior lefthanders Max McCraray (Houston) and Isaiah Salas (San Diego State), who will take on key pitching roles. Senior utility player/first baseman Gian Fernandez and district first-team selection Caleb Holifield (Sr. SS/ RHP, committed to Galveston College) are also back and should provide offensive power in the Highlanders’ lineup. Izzy Vega (Sr. IF/Alvin CC) and sophomore Cash Clayton will further contribute.
Fun Fact: Head coach Ron Eastman, in his 24th year at The Woodlands (31st overall), reached the 700-win milestone in February 2024, becoming one of just 27 coaches in Texas high school baseball history to achieve this feat.
Under the direction of 19th-year head coach Mike Tosch, Foster enjoyed one of their most successful campaigns over the past decade last spring.
After finishing second overall in the district, the Falcons proceeded to advance three rounds deep into the playoffs, marking the first time they’ve done so since 2018.
Now that Tosch and company move up a classification, into District 20-6A, they’ll be faced with greater challenges, though that shouldn’t phase them too much.
Senior outfielder Kai Kirchheiner is back after receiving second-team, all-state honors for his remarkable performance at the plate (.411 BA, 46 hits, 32 RBI, 31 runs) in 2024. Aiden Poirier (Sr. IF) put up some solid numbers (.363 BA, 43 hits, 21 RBI, 28 runs) as well, which earned himself a first-team, all-district nod.
Another key returning starter for Foster will be senior Oscar Trevino (.330 BA, 33 hits, 27 RBI), who will play a critical role on defense as the team’s catcher. Other important names to remember are Brayden Stringer (Sr. IF/Texas Lutheran-commit), Paxton Dagley (Sr. 3B), and Landry Heath (Sr. OF).
