19-1: That's the combined record between Fort Bend Travis (10-0) and Katy Tompkins (9-1). They meet Thursday (live broadcast on vypefortbend.com at 6:45PM), and it's a shame someone has to lose. Both teams just completed their best-ever seasons in varsity football. Travis swept undefeated through District 20-6A, and the Tigers' average margin of victory for the 10-game season was better than 22 points. Quarterback Eric Rodriguez (67% completions, 27 TDs, 5 INTs) and WR Parker Washington (Penn State commit with 14 touchdown receptions) lead a Travis offense that averages 430.3 yards per contest. The Falcons lost only to 10-0 Katy, and averaged scoring 48.7 points per game while allowing only 14.9.
Travis had to play either Katy or Manvel in the opening playoff round in 2015, 2016 and 2018, and lost every time. The unfamiliar opponent, Tompkins, is ranked 20th in the state by MaxPreps, and will be a very difficult obstacle for the Tigers to get past as they continue their search for the 2nd (area) round.
Roger Smith and James Kowalewski will bring you the action on vypefortbend.com.
