10 -- IOWA COLONY PIONEERS
Talk about loaded.
The Iowa Colony Pioneers exploded on the Class 4A scene going 24-15 and winning their district last season. The Pioneers made history and reached the Regional Finals before falling to Stafford.
New coach Trent Olivier moves over from Pasadena Memorial and is blessed with talent.
“We have 13 kids on this team who can play,” Olivier said. “We are going to vary our lineups to our opponents and celebrate each other’s successes. It’s all about team. When you have a team full of guys who can make the extra pass, you have the chance at being really special.”
All-state guard BJ Gill returns along with running-mate RJ Green, who was all-region. Daylen Dalcour and Rodney Carter do the dirty work and are the glue guys, while Leon Graves and is a huge spark on offense.
Don’t sleep on big-man Jayden Evans, who will have an expanded role in 2025.
Moving to Class 5A will be a challenge, but the Pioneers are going to turn some heads.

No. 12 — IOWA COLONY PIONEERS
Iowa Colony, under third-year coach Brandi Justice, has already made some noise. Last year, the Pioneers went an impressive 26-9 overall and 12-0 in district play.
Iowa Colony returns four starters off that team which will seek a third- straight playoff trip in 2025 as they move up to Class 5A. Sophomore Eryn Roberts averaged 12 points and five steals per game as a freshman in 26 games played. Roberts earned District 24-4A Newcomer of the Year. She was also named TABC All-Region and holds one offer from Lamar University.
Junior Payton Watson was named the 26-4A Utility Player of the Year. Others to watch include seniors Aaliiyah Rogers and Kenadie Francis.
The key to success for Justice’s squad is to play “Iowa Colony Basketball” -- trusting each other for 32 minutes.

11 -- CYPRESS FALLS EAGLES
The Eagles went 26-5 over the course of their most recent season, and in the process, locked in their third straight district championship.
Their early exit from the playoffs is not indicative of how effective the group can be once they start cooking.
Two starters return for 10th-year head coach Richard Flores, along with a healthy mix of underclassmen who look to play bigger roles.
Senior guard JaVori Washington should continue to be the catalyst for Cy Falls, alongside fellow seniors Hunter Mayers, Brevin Flores and Nash Beard (So. PG).
Coach Flores will be preaching unity and toughness to his guys in 2025, as they prepare to continue on their tradition of maintained excellence.
