Cory Laxen has been named the new head football coach at CE King High School… and he is pumped about the opportunity.
The offensive line coach and associate head coach for the Panthers will replace George Young.
Laxen came over to CE King with now-athletic director Derek Fitzhenry, where they worked together at North Shore High School under the direction of coach Jon Kay.
VYPE’s Matt Malatesta caught up with Laxen after the Panthers’ athletic period, where it’s business as usual.

Shelton Henderson of Bellaire is the VYPE Player of the Year
The depth of the Greater Houston basketball landscape was vast in 2025.
While it was thought to be a bit of a down year coming into the season, it saw five H-Town programs advance to the State Finals.
Duke signee Shelton Henderson of Bellaire was special. He led the HISD school to the brink of a State Title. The Cards had a shot at the buzzer to beat mighty Duncanville, which fell short.
Henderson was an easy choice at the top... the rest of the All-VYPE teams took hours of discussion and disagreements. It was that competitive.
Here are the All-VYPE Pubic School Teams of 2025.

Summer Creek girls basketball visits the VYPE House
Down 18 points with three minutes left in the third quarter of the State Title game, Summer Creek coach Kiara Marshall didn’t panic.
The first-year head coach of the Bulldogs trusted the work that they put in all season in practice.
It paid off as Summer Creek won its first ever girls basketball State Title after being to the Final Four, four of the past six years.
VYPE’s Matt Malatesta talked to the crew inside the VYPE "On My Whistle Podcast".
