The V.R. Eaton Eagles are no strangers when it comes to starting their season off strong, so no one could have expected this season to go any differently. Let's dive deeper into what's in store for the strong Class 6A team:
Rewind
Last season V.R. Eaton posted a strong 9-4 overall record (5-1 in district play). The team beat the likes of Boswell, Fossil Ridge, Keller, and Timber Creek en route to playoffs. The Eagles even posted a 21-0 shutout over Northwest ISD's own Byron Nelson just before Halloween.
The Eagles posted two big wins in playoffs (21-14 against Weatherford, 40-16 against San Angelo Central) before falling 27-17 to Prosper.
2021 Begins
With a large return of upperclassmen, Eaton is on pace to have one of their best seasons yet. The team has already started off strong posting two strong wins against other Dallas-Fort Worth area teams. In Week 1, the Eagles won 22-13 against Arlington Seguin before posting a 47-0 shutout win over Mansfield Legacy in a Week 2 matchup.
Led by senior quarterback Tyler Fussell, the Eagles are in good hands. Fussell has recorded 409 passing yards, 124 rushing yards, and four rushing touchdowns. Additionally, Fussell has thrown four touchdown passes in just two games. Senior tight end Charles Whitebear is another name to watch as he's posted 202 receiving yards and two touchdowns. Other touchdowns have been accounted for by Jaden Platt and Christopher Anderson.
Among rushing yard leaders you'll find junior running back JB Brown (181 yards), junior Logan Wright (135 yards), and Fussell.
What's In Store?
Next up, Northwest Eaton will face Hebron on September 10 in their second to last non-district game. After facing Braswell in Week 4, Eaton will head into district play where fans can expect to see the Eagles post a strong run towards playoffs.
