RECRUIT SCOOP: Magnolia's Wykoff talks recent Notre Dame offer, recruiting process and more
Back on March 5, Magnolia's Matthew Wykoff released what at that point were his Top 7 schools of interest, which included premiere programs such as Texas, USC and Penn State.
Just three weeks later, Wykoff has had to transform that list into a now Top 8 since the call he received from the University of Notre Dame.
"It was really exciting, I'm really big on tradition when it comes to the school, so that was really cool to me," Wykoff, who wants to pursue a business degree and then get into law school, said. "I'd say my Top 7 is a Top 8 now. I was just really overwhelmed and excited about the offer."
The three-star prospect is set to enter his senior year at Magnolia come the fall.
Wykoff is currently ranked by 24/7 Sports as the 33rd-best offensive tackle in Texas for the 2021 recruiting class. In the overall recruiting prospect ranking, Wykoff checks in at No. 54.
"Going into football, I never expected to be this big in recruiting," Wykoff said. "I always had that dream as a kid to go play college football and play at the next level. To be able to do it is very exciting, it's awesome."
Of course right now, Wykoff is just thinking about mostly what he will be able to do at the college level.
But the programs on his list include ones that have had a recent history of sending linemen to the NFL - Chuma Edoga (USC - Jets 2019 Draft), Zach Banner (USC - Colts 2017 Draft), Max Tuerk (USC - Chargers 2016 Draft), Mike McGlinchey (Notre Dame - 49ers 2018 Draft), Nick Martin (Notre Dame - Texans 2016 Draft), Ronnie Stanley (Notre Dame - Ravens 2016 Draft) and Connor Williams (Texas - Cowyboys 2018 Draft).
"I definitely look at it some," Wykoff said. "All of these coaches at these schools have a phenomenal background. I believe that they could all get me to the league if I work hard enough and work with all the tools they give me."
