VYPE Coaches Corner: Kelvin Chatham Aldine Davis Football Head Coach
Kelvin Chatham has some juice.
The youngest head football coach and campus coordinator in Aldine ISD is ready to make a name for himself and put the Davis Falcons on the Greater Houston-area football map.
“I love his energy and his ability to relate to the kids,” Aldine ISD athletic director Dre Thompson said.
He played his high school football at Nimitz before going the Juco route in California. The receiver landed at Illinois State before having a few short stints in the NFL and Canadian Football League.
He started his high school coaching career as an assistant at Nimitz before becoming a head coach at Booker T. Washington in HISD, where he flipped the culture in two short years. The Golden Eagles went 9-1 in 2022, winning district for the first time in over 16 years.
“I grew up two streets over from here… 1360 Greens Parkway in a one-bedroom apartment with my mom and sister,” he said. “It’s a great opportunity to be back home and to give back to the community that really poured into me as a kid. I was molded by great teachers, coaches and counselors at Nimitz and now I want to give these kids that same opportunity.”
The Falcons went 4-6 overall and 2-5 in district play in 2022.
“Our expectation is to win the day,” he said. “We want to win in the classroom, the hallways and in the community. If you win in those facets, then the wins on the field will come naturally.
“We are BOD! – Built on Discipline,” he said. “That’s where it starts and finishes. We are to be disciplined as a team and a family united as one. With both of those, everything falls into place.”

VYPE Coaches Corner: Odell James Head Coach of Eisenhower Football
Odell James was an Aldine ISD legend on the football field for the MacArthur Generals in the 1990s as one of the city’s first Parade All-Americans. Now, he’s back in the district as the head coach of the Eisenhower Eagles after winning a State Title as the QB coach for Duncanville last December.
VYPE caught up with the district legend as he pays it forward in the community.
