PHOTO GALLERY: Beeville Trojans fend off an Orange Grove Comeback
During week two of Texas High School Football, South Texas saw plenty of amazing match ups. One of those match ups was in the Beeville A.C. Jones Trojans' home opener against the Orange Grove Bulldogs. With plenty of back-and-forth as well as a hard-fought game on both ends of the ball, the Trojans held off Orange Grove's attempt at a comeback. See a photo gallery from the game below!
Scoring for the Trojans was Davyn Perez with three touchdowns to his name (one of which was an 80-yard kick return), Seth Gutierrez with a 102-yard pick-six, Ryne Espinoza with a two-yard rushing touchdown, and Beau Auzston with a 37-yard touchdown reception.
Scoring for the Bulldogs was Landon Chandler, Jack Atkinson, Logan Rodriguez, and Greg Carrillo.
With a strong defensive effort combined with a fast style of play from Beeville, the Trojans were able to fend off an Orange Grove comeback to win 41-33 over the Bulldogs. Next week, Beeville (2-0) travels to Robstown for a Week 3 Thursday night matchup while Orange Grove (1-1) looks to redeem themselves in a Thursday night away game against London.
Friday Night Preview: Beeville hosts Orange Grove in Home Opener
South Texas is home to a lot of amazing football. In week two of the 2023-24 Texas high school football season, the Beeville Trojans are looking to stay on the rise when they face off against Orange Grove in front of a home crowd. Meanwhile, Orange Grove is looking to use their strong offense to power over Beeville and stay undefeated at the start of their season. VYPE dives into the details:
Orange Grove Bulldogs (1-0)
Orange Grove had a tough time getting things together last season. As they went 2-2 in district play (5-2 overall), the team fought week after week to continue their season. With a playoff appearance firing the Bulldogs up to enter the offseason (and ultimately the new season) stronger, Orange Grove was able to get off on the right foot in week one of the 2023-24 season. With a dominating 53-14 victory over Hebbronville, the Bulldogs have shown that they didn't come to mess around this season. Athletes like Jaden Hubble, Robert Silva, Diego Garza, Dom Garza, Derek Lopez, Logan Rodriguez, Braden Petru, Diego Serna, Brady Jenkins, Jack Atkinson, Michael Seanz, and more are ready to get the job done this season. Looking to start a hot streak in their non-district play, Orange Grove will leave no stone unturned as they travel to Beeville on Friday night.
Beeville A.C. Jones Trojans (1-0)
The Beeville A.C. Jones Trojans football team is coming off of a less-than-ideal season last year. With a 2-3 finish in district play (5-6 overall) and a short playoff appearance, Beeville is determined to show their fans and the naysayers that they have what it takes to be dominant in South Texas football again. Last week, the Trojans traveled to Sinton where they worked hard on the field to defeat this longstanding rival by a score of 23-16. Athletes like Landon Briones, Joshua Arroyos, Beau Auzston, Edward Brako, Elijah Sustaita, Ryne Espinoza, Trae Viduarri, Aydan Sarate, Hayden Cuevas, Ryan Foster, and more are willing to put hard work to the test this season as they gear up for their home opener against Orange Grove.
What To Expect
The Trojans were triumphant in week two last season where they traveled to Orange Grove and delivered an outstanding 41-6 loss to the Bulldogs. Looking to prove the same dominance on the field, Beeville fans can expect the team to come out ready to leave their mark in a battle you're not going to want to miss. Beeville has a strong run game and continued to showcase their talent in their week one victory. Orange Grove fans can expect this strong defense to step up and give Beeville a run for their money. The team has worked hard to gain power on both sides of the ball and can be expected to force the Trojans to put the ball through the air more often on Friday night. This matchup is going to be one that you don't want to miss if you're in the South Texas area.
Kick-off is slated for 7:30 p.m. on Friday night at Veterans Memorial Stadium in Beeville, Texas.
