Tivy Flexes Muscles In Win Against Uvalde; Takes Outright Lead In 14-5A DII
Kerrville Tivy (5-1, 3-0) entered Friday as one of two 14-5A Division II teams with an undefeated district record, but ended the day as the lone ranger at the top. That's because the Antlers used a complete team effort in a 49-0 homecoming win against Uvalde (3-3, 1-2) and Lockhart (4-2, 2-1) lost a 41-17 home game against Boerne Champion (5-1, 2-1).
Tivy received the ball on the game's opening kickoff and VYPE Player of the Game Trapper Pannell immediately went to work. The Antlers' quarterback scored a rushing touchdown at the 9:17 mark of the opening quarter and added six touchdown passes by night's end. He connected with Brooks McCoy and Colten Drake after the defense recorded a first quarter fumble.
"It was a good team win," said Pannell. "We played well as a team."

Uvalde had a hard time answering and Jack Patterson took advantage. The defensive back's pick six resulted in the third Tivy score of the half and his first of two interceptions, so it was a 21-0 game with 2:49 left in the second period.
The Coyotes weren't completely shut out from success, as defensive back Ryan De La Cruz provided a pair of interceptions between the 8:28 and 5:37 marks of the second quarter and added a third at the 5:29 mark of the third.
But, Tivy bounced back when a short Uvalde punt set up a Pannell to Cole Miears' touchdown connection at the 2:01 mark of the second quarter. That gave the Antlers a 35-point advantage at halftime.
The second half was more of the same. Interceptions were recorded by Tivy defensive backs Race Risinger and Coleson Abel, with the latter setting up the first of two Pannell to Drake connections in the second half. The Antlers expanded their lead to 42 points at the 1:11 mark of the third quarter and wrapped up a 49-point win at the 11:02 mark of the fourth.
"Can't take anything for granted," said Patterson. "From here, we just gotta keep winning. Expect us to go far."
