Five Reasons not to count The Woodlands out
The Woodlands have fallen to Pearland and Hightower this season. but the Highlanders are picking up some steam.
The Highlanders will be favored in their final three games in District 13-6A after knocking off Oak Ridge 31-21 this weekend. The War Eagles had a shot to catch The Woodlands off guard, but the Highlanders proved to be too much. TWHS sits atop the district with a 2-0 record.
Here are some takeaways from the weekend and beyond.

TEDDY TIME
WR Teddy Knox is putting it together this season after moving over from Baton Rouge a year ago. He's becoming a difference-maker that the Mississippi State-commit was thought to be upon his arrival. He had a TD reception and a punt return for a TD against the War Eagles. He's the best player on the field.

THE WIGGLES
The combination of Jack Calhoun, Ben Ferguson and Lane O'Brien give defenses fits. They aren't super-imposing, but they have wiggle when they get the ball in their hands. They are very slippery and versatile because they can run and catch.

THE BIGS
OLs Titan Tucker, Kaden Sieracki, MJ Ruhman and Cross Tucker are providing QB protection and holes to run through. While they are some of the nicest guys in the locker room, these guys are pushing teams around with their size.

QB GETTING COMFORTABLE
Connor Dechiro has put a pair of successful games together. Can he keep it going? The balance of the running game and bubble screens make his job easy, but if the Highlanders are to have staying power, he needs to be able to throw the deep ball with confidence. We saw some of that last weekend.

NO NAME DEFENSE
After the loss of Martell Harris to injury, the Highlanders have done it with a bunch of good HS players. Logan Ecuyer, Bradley Warren, Nathan Carlos, Matt Knipfel, Kain Kennedy, Caden Miller, Pablo Amaya, Noah Polatko, Evan Dublin and Harrison DiPasquale make it a group effort.

Welcome to the 2020 football season. What a weird offseason it was for everyone. There was not a summer camp circuit for player to go showcase their talents at. In-person recruiting came to a screeching halt and the COVID-19 Pandemic has affected everyone.
But VYPE has still done what we have always done when it comes to previewing Texas high school football here in Houston. With that said here are the No. 18 The Woodlands Highlanders!

Coach Jim Rapp has his work cut out for him. The second-year head coach led the Highlanders to the third-round of the postseason with an 8-5 record in 2019, but nearly 60 seniors graduated. Rapp, an old OL coach, will draw to his strength of a massive front. Titan Tucker, M.J. Ruhman, Concordia Lutheran move-in Kaden Sieracki and sophomore Cross Tucker will anchor the offense. The Tucker and Ruhman connection dates back to Texas A&M, when their fathers Rex and Chris played on the same line for the Aggies. WR Teddy Knox (Mississippi State-commit) should be the showcased weapon on offense along with Jack Calhoun and RB JoBarre Reed. Junior WR Ben Ferguson will also get in the mix. Connor Deshiro should emerge as the starting QB. Defensively, junior LB Martrell Harris gets to make his Highlander debut after playing JV due to a transfer rule. Harris could be a stud, patrolling the middle of the field. Logan Ecuyer and Bradley Warren will anchor the DL, while the secondary has some significant turnover.
