THE RANKINGS: Willis, Barbers Hill, Second Baptist biggest movers in VYPE Rankings
With several districts on a bye week, the VYPE Class 6A Top 25 had minimal movement.
The biggest impact games included Willis’ win over The Woodlands on a last-second field goal and Cypress Springs knocking off district bully Cypress Ranch, 31-16.
Same goes for Class 5A. The top three teams dominated as Randle, Iowa Colony and Galveston Ball are the class of Class 5A. Randle crushed FB Marshall, while Iowa Colony blew out then-ranked Baytown Lee. Randle and Iowa Colony face each other on the VYPE Thursday Night Showdown this week on Space City Home Network.
The private school ranks also have a new No. 1. The Second Baptist School Eagles are undefeated and knocked off St. John’s School in a war last week. QB Canon Toon has done it with his feet and arm, and the defense has been stingy.
The wait is over… it’s a full district slate this week as district titles start coming into focus.
Stay tuned.

The stars of 2024-25 Pearland Dawson Volleyball
LIFTOFF: No. 8 Pearland Dawson could be a legit 6A contender
NO. 8 -- PEARLAND DAWSON EAGLES
Head Coach: Lauren Leth
2023: 38-10/Regional Semifinalists
PERENNIAL PLAYOFF CONTENDERS. THAT IS THE SIMPLEST WAY TO DESCRIBE THE EAGLES OF PEARLAND DAWSON.
Lauren Leth has this program churning every single season and with four starters returning off a 38-win team that went four rounds deep in the 2023 postseason, this year should be no different.
First-team, all-district middle blocker Kennedy Jones (Army-commit) returns after being selected for the TGCA All-Star team a year ago. Jones finished with 279 kills, 79 blocks and a .375 hitting percentage.
Also selected to the first-team, all-district was middle blocker Keaton Points (184 kills, 98 blocks, .306 hitting percentage) and defensive specialist Jenna Thedford (451 digs).
Other players to watch include Northwestern State-commit Emmarie McFarland (209 kills, 160 digs) and Isabella Tijerina (218 serving aces).
Keys to success include solid defense, dynamic middles and team chemistry, according to Leth.
