VYPE SETX Can't Miss Kid: De’Anthony Gatson, Newton Football
VYPE caught up with De'Anthony Gatson, the leading rusher in District 12-3A and member of the Newton football team, for a quick Q&A.
VYPE: You are entering your junior season after leading your district in rushing. What do you want to accomplish this coming season?
De'Anthony: I want to accomplish breaking Newton High School single-season rushing record, and adding another state championship.
VYPE: Explain what it's like to play for Newton Football and the community support for its football program.
De'Anthony: Playing for Newton is a great opportunity for me because I know everyone and everyone knows me. And the support? I couldn't ask for better support. They're going to ride with me through the losses and the wins.
VYPE: What was the thing that surprised you most last season?
De'Anthony: The ability and potential I had. When my teammate got hurt, I was the next guy up and yes it was a lot of pressure, but I kept my cool and played my game and I was very impressed on how I stepped up.
VYPE: What are you looking forward to the most in the upcoming season?
De'Anthony: My team and I just want to get my coach his first ring as Head Coach. We're all young but also very coachable and hard workers.
VYPE: Describe the type of team Newton will have next season.
De'Anthony: The team we will have is a very young and physical team. We work hard everyday and we are all striving to be the best we can be.
