Paving the road towards success: Denton Guyer Basketball
After a less-than-ideal season last year, the Guyer Wildcats have truly made a name for themselves this season. The Wildcats have forged a path that proved all naysayers wrong and now head into the area round against Arlington Martin. VYPE DFW takes a look at the road to playoffs as well as what fans can expect from this Denton Guyer squad!
Road To Playoffs
This season, the Wildcats took to the court with a fire in their hearts and the will to be the best that they have ever been. Their drive to succeed has radiated throughout every game they have played beginning with their season opening 78-77 overtime win against Byron Nelson to set the tone for the rest of their season. If there were any naysayers after that, you wouldn't have been able to tell by the way Guyer continued to give it their all on the court with wins over Cedar Hill, Lewisville, Plano West, Temple, and more during preseason play.
Denton Guyer finished second in their district- just behind the McKinney Lions- with a 10-2 district record. The Wildcats posted strong wins against the likes of Dallas Jesuit, Denton Braswell, Allen, McKinney, Little Elm, Prosper, and more in order to set up their strong playoff entrance.
Playoffs & What To Expect
To start playoffs with a bang, the Wildcats posted a 73-60 victory over the Lewisville Farmers. With the big victory, Denton Guyer is headed into the area round where they will face-off against a strong Arlington Martin squad. Arlington Martin is 25-7 overall this season and will prove to be a strong team.
Guyer fans can expect nothing less than the true heart of the Wildcats on the court. That is, fans can expect the Wildcats to play with the same intensity that has been seen all season. Denton Guyer should have no problems taking any challenge that Arlington Martin throws their way and doing their best to overcome!
Buckets on Buckets! Goetz makes history leading Guyer to district title threepeat
For the third season in a row, the Denton Guyer Lady Wildcats have secured a share of the No. 1 position in their district. The only thing standing in their way of having the district champion title outright is Allen- should Allen lose their game against Braswell on Friday night, the Lady Eagles will reign as the sole district champions.
Guyer defeated Little Elm by an astounding 81-43. The win allowed Guyer to complete their regular season with a 19-5 overall record and a 11-1 district record, but that wasn't the biggest thing to happen on the court for the Lady Wildcats.
With an excellent 23-point game for senior Evie Goetz, history was made. The TCU signee surpassed 1500 career points for the Lady Wildcats; on none other than senior night. Guyer's Lady Wildcat Basketball Twitter account tweeted about the huge accomplishment for the four-star athlete:
