On the Rise: Denton Broncos Hoops
While the last few seasons have been rebuilding years for the Denton High Broncos basketball program, this season they seem to be on a path made for champions. The Broncos are putting up a great season so far and look to continue to do so as they prepare to continue district play. So what can fans expect the rest of the season?
Looking Back
Last season and the season before were less-than-ideal. The team saw a couple of rough patches, but never lost sight of what the future could hold. Despite finishing 8th in their district standings last season, the Broncos were able to pull off three victories over Dallas Jefferson, Nocona, and district opponent Justin Northwest.
Without making a playoff appearance, the Broncos were able to get right to work on figuring out how to make the next season better. It's clear that they took their offseason workouts seriously as they entered this season looking fresh and ready to get the job done!
This Season
So far this season, the Broncos are on an up trend with a 73% winning percentage. The team opened their season with a 67-65 victory over Frisco Lone Star. From there, the Broncos have posted incredible wins over the likes of Aubrey (57-44), Arlington Sam Huston (61-59), Hurst L.D. Bell (71-43), Mansfield Lake Ridge (51-48), and more in non-district games. To open their district schedule, the Broncos went head-to-head with Birdville in front of a home crowd and posted a 56-36 victory.
Led by MJ Thomas, Blake Courtney, Jordan Kamga, Carter Eddy, Hayden Gunter, Christian Walker, and more, the team has been a force on the court this season. With a 11-4 overall record, the Broncos have outscored their opponents by a combined 73 points and will look to continue widening the gap as the season progresses.
What to Expect
Fans are sure to see Denton continue to improve as they work through the rest of their schedule. With one tournament game left before the remainder of their district schedule, expect to see the Broncos play fast offense in order to come out ahead in their standings this winter. It's not a far-fetched idea that Denton has what it takes to make a convincing playoff run this season.
The team's next district game will be at home against Denton Ryan at 7 p.m. on January 3rd. Be sure you catch this squad in action on their rise!
