Off to an unexpected 2-2 start to the season, the back-to-back defending state champions are looking to enter district play with determination and focus. VYPE DFW takes a look at what has happened so far for the Golden Bears and what fans can expect as they enter district play this week!
Non-District
With a back-and-forth district record, the South Oak Cliff Bears have had a start to the season that isn't quite what fans expected. Traveling to open their season, the team posted a 34-13 loss against Duncanville in week one. Regrouping and geared up for action, the team went into week two with their heads held high and defeated Lancaster by a score of 42-21 in a home opener for the season. With DeSoto breathing down their necks in a week three 54-14 loss, South Oak Cliff bounced back last week to defeat four-time (consecutive) defending TAPPS state champion Parish Episcopal in a 49-14 trouncing.
What To Expect
Opening district play in a Thursday night matchup against Dallas Adamson, fans can expect to see this team ready to flourish. Led by the likes of Ricky Evans, Trey Jackson, Deveon Ennis, Khalil Ewell, Danny Green, Brandon Jones, Jayden Shelton, Semaj'Dre Gasaway, Perry Grundy, Jamarion Phillips, and more, this team knows exactly what it wants: a 3-peat.
Fired up with a chip on their shoulder, fans can expect South Oak Cliff to take control of their district standings and enter playoffs with ease. Keep your eyes on this crew as they attempt to continue showcasing their talent and ability through the 2023-24 season.
DISTRICT PREVIEW: Jacket Fight Never Dies in Rockwall
Rockwall football has a campaign that they aren't taking lightly this season: fight without ceasing. Proving their ability to continue strong even through adversity, the team looks to have an incredible chance to be at or near the top of their district standings. VYPE DFW takes a look at this team as they prepare to enter district play on Friday against cross-town rivals Rockwall-Heath.
Non-District
The Yellowjackets had impressive moments throughout non-district play. Opening the season with a 56-21 victory over Cedar Hill, Rockwall was geared up and ready to do work. Despite a week two 60-59 loss, the team showcased their effort and focus when battling for what they wanted. Learning from adversity, showing resilience, and regrouping, the Yellowjackets went on to stun Prosper in a week three 47-41 victory in front of a home crowd. In their final non-district matchup of the season, Rockwall hosted South Grand Prairie where the team took control of the tone early and powered through for a 51-25 victory.
What To Expect
Tristan Gooch, Matthew Young, Camron Marsh, Ashten Emory, Parker Williams, Jamir Wilson, Jake Overstreet, Ranger Weatherford, Brandon Riekers, Jack Duckworth, Noah Moringlane, Hayden Curry, and others continue to be major playmakers for Rockwall. Utilizing a high IQ for the game mixed with a drive that is nearly unmatched, the Yellowjackets can be expected to work overtime in order to make a deep playoff run this season. First, though, the team must face their district schedule.
Rockwall opens district play on Friday, September 22nd against Rockwall-Heath. The atmosphere can be expected to be nothing short of electric as the Rockwall faithful fill the stands in Heath. Last season, Rockwall absolutely dominated in a 56-21 victory over the Hawks and they will look to enter district play with a statement victory.
Facing one of their toughest opponents early will allow Rockwall the opportunity to set a tone and face a challenge preparing them for the rest of their district schedule. Fans can count on this team making waves through district play this season.
