Forney Volleyball drives forward with success
Dedication, focus, drive, and power are just some of the words that would describe the Forney Lady Jackrabbits volleyball squad. The team used every moment in their non-district scheduling as an opportunity to grow and continues to power through their district play this season. As they prepare for a rivalry match-up against Crandall on Friday night, VYPE DFW takes a look at how their season is going so far:
So Far
Going 20-7 in non-district play, the Lady Jackrabbits set themselves up for success from an early start. Opening the season with a six-win streak, Forney was able to secure statement victories over tough opponents like Mesquite Horn (3-2), Denton Braswell (2-1), Princeton (3-1), North Forney (2-0), and others. Using each loss to grow and learn, the Jackrabbits have even powered through their toughest moments in order to bounce back with poise and resiliency.
Through district play so far, Forney has not allowed a single set to be won against them. Shutting out Red Oak, Ennis, Corsicana, Lancaster, and Terrell, the Lady Jackrabbits are paving a comfortable path through their district schedule. Kylie Rodriguez, Mia Santos, Sydney Davis, Izzi Shemberger, Sam Wojtowicz, Arianna Reyna, and others help lead this squad to success in each game. Santos currently has 73 aces to her name on the season while Davis and Shemberger lead the team in blocks with a combined 128 blocks. Rodriguez averages nearly four kills per set.
Moving Forward
Up next for Forney is an away game against the Crandall Lady Pirates (13-9, 2-2) on Friday, September 29th beginning at 5:30 p.m.. Last season, both times the Lady Jackrabbits faced off against Crandall, they posted sweeps. This season, Forney looks to continue their hot streak against Crandall. Through the rest of district play, the team's biggest challenge will come in an October 6th pairing with Red Oak. Having already faced them with a shut-out victory, fans shouldn't be too worried about the matchup.
Expecting another season in which they dominate over their district opponents, Forney fans can anticipate a strong run toward the playoffs.
