STATE SEMIFINALS PREVIEW: Grapevine vs. Boerne-Champion
The Grapevine Lady Mustangs are headed back to the UIL State Tournament after a heartbreaking loss to Frisco Wakeland last season in the semifinals. After working hard all season, the Lady Mustangs are headed into the state semifinals on a 12 game win-streak. VYPE DFW takes a look at what fans can expect headed into the game on Thursday.
Finishing first in their district with a 13-1 record (22-2-1 overall), the Mustangs have been working for this moment all season. With big wins over the likes of South Grand Prairie, Colleyville Heritage, Birdville, Justin Northwest, and more, Grapevine recorded eight shut-out wins en route to the playoffs. So far in the playoffs, the Lady Mustangs have halted the seasons of Granbury, Mansfield Timberview, Wichita Falls, and most recently Lubbock Cooper and Colleyville Heritage to be crowned the Regional Tournament champions.
Led by Sam Larsen, Theresa McCullough, Ashley Knight, and more, the Lady Mustangs have outscored their opponents by 89 goals this season- 21 during postseason play. Grapevine's defense has been at the top of their game through a couple of seasons now and is looking to finish what they started. As the team heads into the state semifinals against Boerne-Champion, fans can expect the Lady Mustangs to amp up their sense of urgency. Expect early shots on goal, fast scoring, and bars to be raised through the state tournament. Boerne-Champion (19-3-4) has a tough defense, but Grapevine's offense is strong enough to break through.
The game is set to begin at 12 p.m. on Thursday, April 14th at Birkelbach Field in Georgetown, Texas.

The Grapevine Mustangs soccer team has spent season after season growing their success for this moment. After falling to El Paso Del Valle 4-1 deep in playoffs last season, the Mustangs hit the pitch with a mission this season. Now, they are headed into a regional quarterfinals pairing with Wichita Falls. VYPE DFW dives into what fans can expect out of this Mustangs squad!
A Look Back
The Mustangs finished at the top of their district this season with an undefeated 13-0-1 district record. The Mustangs were ready to prove that they were not only battle tested, but sharpened, focused, and ready to prove any naysayer wrong. With a 95% win percentage, the Mustangs went on to defeat the likes of Amarillo, San Antonio Cornerstone Christian, Justin Northwest, Colleyville Heritage, Denton Ryan, and more during regular season play.
Playoffs - What To Expect:
With 10 shut-out victories, the Mustangs headed into playoffs on top of the world- ready to take down anyone who stands between them and the state tournament. So far, Grapevine has posted a strong 5-2 victory over Aledo and a close 2-1 victory over W.T. Wyatt in the playoffs. Outscoring their opponents by a combined 6-3 in playoffs, the Mustangs (25-0-2) are more than prepared for what comes next as they take on the Coyotes (18-4-2).
Fans can expect the Mustangs to roll onto the field ready to go. There hasn't been a single minute of play this season where Grapevine hasn't given it their all. The Mustangs have showed only a sense of urgency and focus all season. The defense plays fast and smart while the offense takes every opportunity to strike. If the Mustangs score early and remain consistent, fans can expect nothing but the best outcome for Grapevine. The game is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. on Friday, April 1st in Mineral Wells.
