Janes powers Hargrave to state in big game three win!
Katy Janes gathered up her teammates Friday night and carried them to the 4A state tournament next weekend in Austin. In an elimination game three at Madison High School Janes overpowered a tough Robinson squad from the circle and drove in three crucial runs with her bat to lead the Lady Falcons to a 11-1 series clinching win.
Janes came back from a game two defeat earlier in the night that saw Robinson win a hard fought victory 2-0 after Hargrave loaded up the bases with two outs in the bottom of the seventh. Bella Reid ended the game with a fly out to left field.
That would bring the rubber game three heroics to Janes with her dominant pitching where she struck out six and gave up only two hits for a total of six hits over the three game series.
Her most impressive performance Wednesday night was in the batters box however where Janes drove in Hagen Pike with a first inning double and then powered a fourth inning two run home run with Alli Humphries on board to make the score 5-1.
The Lady Falcons would score six more times over the sixth and seventh innings to close out the contest.
Janes brought her series strike out total to 26. The power pitcher would fan 13 batters Thursday in game one, seven in game two and another six in Friday's night cap.
Hargrave will now move to the state semifinals next Thursday at either 9am or 12pm.
Robinson ends their season with an overall record of 32-9.
Hargrave Softball powers into regional finals
As the late, great ESPN announcer Stuart Scott proclaimed during hot streaks "That team is butter, 'cause they're on a roll." Hargrave softball is burning hot oil right now as they are undefeated during the playoffs with four consecutive sweeps and now they are one step away from the Texas 4A state tournament next week.
All that's in their way is a team called Robinson.
The Lady Rockets enter the fifth round as a dangerous team of their own, going eight and one in the playoffs, their lone loss to Splendora in the opening game of round four.
"Robinson can play," said Garrett Gaines, head softball coach for Huffman.
"You can't get to the fifth round of playoffs without being good team. They are sound defensively they swing it well and they're well coached. We're excited about the matchup but we also know its going to be a tough contest versus Robinson."
Hargrave has their own weapons, namely Katy Janes whose dominance from the circle has been impressive if not brilliant. Of her eight starts in the playoffs four have been shutouts and only once has the opponent scored more than two runs.
"Its nice not to have any worries in the circle," said Gates.
"Katy has been gearing up for the playoffs every week and it seems she's getting better the further we go. We're hoping it continues."
At the plate Hargrave had some clutch performers last week from their bottom order as Kenzie Gates, Kyndel Berard, and Andrea Hortch each had big rbi in a close game one. Bella Reid set the tone early in game two with a first inning three run home run to stagger Lorena to a 10-0 loss.
"We've been playing very well," said Gates.
"We're very blessed to how things are going for us. We're undefeated in the playoffs and we're looking to keep it going."
The Lady Falcons start their playoff series against Robinson 7pm Thursday night at Madison High School and continue the series Friday night at 5pm and, if necessary, 7pm.
