PREVIEW: Highland Park Volleyball gears up
With a near-perfect winning percentage last year, Highland Park volleyball has been resurfacing toward its typical success. A dedication and grit unlike any other around, it’s easy to see why the Lady Scots are ranked at the top of VYPE DFW’s preseason 6A volleyball rankings.
REWIND
Last season, Highland Park posted a 42-3 overall record and finished first in their district after an undefeated 14-0 run. Defeating the likes of Red Oak (3-0), Frisco Reedy (2-1), Richardson J.J. Pearce (3-0), Richardson (3-0), Irving MacArthur (3-0), and more, the Lady Scots made their impact on the court apparent game in and game out.
Through playoffs, Highland Park sent Arlington Lamar (3-0) and Flower Mound (3-1) home without looking back. As they headed closer toward a state title run, they eventually fell to Denton Guyer (3-1).
LOOKING AHEAD
With strong returners such as seniors Madeline Walker, Vivian Johnson, Mia Lee, and Harper Hall as well as juniors Isabella Ocampo, Emma Wang, and Caroline Cannon, Highland Park can be expected to be a favorite in the 6A volleyball world. The team will look toward a preseason schedule that should be no trouble when they open up their schedule on the road against Red Oak in August.
After working through their preseason schedule, the Lady Scots will face many of the same teams that they have in the past. With a 3-2 start in preseason and victories over Red Oak (3-0), Wylie East (3-0), and Wylie (3-0). The Lady Scot's next game is Tuesday, August 15th against Colleyville Heritage on the road at 6:30 p.m.
