GAME PREVIEW: Richardson Berkner hosts Irving football
Richardson Berkner football has been dominating the field this season. As they continue to power through district play, they gear up to host the Irving Tigers on Friday night. Irving is searching for their first victory this season. What can fans expect to see heading into this matchup?
Irving Tigers (0-4, 0-2)
Having a tough time to get their footing on track this season, the Irving Tigers have recorded four losses in a row. In weeks one through three, Irving traveled to Fort Worth, Garland, and Dallas to face tough opponents. Losing to Fort Worth Paschal (38-6) and South Garland (14-10) in non-district play, the Tigers learned how to deal with adversity on the field.
So far in district play, Irving has seen two opponents: Highland Park (63-3) and Dallas Jesuit (52-13). Despite difficult losses, the team continues to put their best foot forward, learn from hard moments on the field, and grow. Led by Christoper Alvarez, Adiel Pena, David Perez, Fred Webb, Patrick Claros, Xavian Page, Robert Ventura, and others, the Tigers will head into Friday night with determination in Richardson.
Richardson Berkner Rams (3-2, 3-0)
Following a playoff appearance last season, the Berkner Rams are back at it and ready to put a stop to as many of their district opponents as possible. The team opened the season against non-district opponents who were meant to challenge and sharpen their skill on the field. In week one, the Rams fell in a hard-fought 14-13 matchup against Wylie East. Week two saw a battle against McKinney in which the Rams posted a 35-14 loss.
Since entering district play, Berkner has never looked back. Downing Richardson (46-21), Richardson JJ Pearce (35-28), and Lake Highlands (55-35), the Rams are focused and steady this season. Much like last season's success (in which he recorded nearly 1,070 yards and seven touchdowns), running back Jamary Williams is on a mission this season to put Berkner on the map-- in his last game Williams rushed for over 170 yards for one touchdown on 16 carries. Alongside Williams, Kobi Foreman, Kaden Alcorn, Anthony Jones, Marvin Soto, Donald Foote, and others help Berkner succeed through each moment on the field.
What To Expect
Berker is going to come out fast against Irving. Last season, the team posted a 31-0 shut-out victory over the Tigers and they're looking to continue their hot streak in district play. Irving is looking for a win this season-- ready to put up a fight, the Tigers' fans can expect to see Irving put forth a strong effort as they battle against Richardson.
Kick-off is slated for 7 p.m. in Richardson on Friday night.
