The Mindset - Aldine ISD Magazine
Birds of a feather, flock together.
Eisenhower girls track has been a state contender for years and coach Ahmad Roper has another talented group led by Iyana Gray. The junior reached the Regional meet as a sophomore in the 200-meters and looks to build on her high school resume.
"When I was 12-years-old, I did summer track," she said. "I knew right then that this was I wanted to do with my life. I've just worked to get better at it. Now, track is my life. I'm trying to get my college paid for through the sport and see what happens from there."
Gray is all in and has a mentality that fits the sport and her team.
"I'm the type of person to never half-do something," she said. "I'm going to do everything to the best of my ability and go hard. Or I'm not going to do it at all. That's my mindset and I like to surround myself with people with that same mindset.
"Our team is the same. When you lose, you can get better. You have a new PR, you can always improve on that PR. You can never settle or get comfortable."
Gray spent the offseason in the weight room with her team to get her body stronger. She hopes the hard work pays dividends.
"We want to win state," she said. "We all have that same goal and we are always thinking about it when we go to practice and the meets. It's a family atmosphere and we have fun, but we work."
