INSTANT REACTION: Rockwall Shakes Off Slow Start, Downs Prosper
FRISCO - Another banner night for JSN. If you aren't familiar with those initials, you should probably get acquainted real quick because he's going to be a force come Saturdays next year at Ohio State.
Jaxon Smith-Njigba had a huge night for Rockwall in a 59-42 win over Prosper to advance to the 6A Division I State Semifinals, despite the terrible start.
By the 7:40 mark of the first quarter, Rockwall was already in a 14-0 hole. Prosper took the opening drive and scored in nine plays. On Rockwall's next possession: pick-six. Rockwall sophomore Braedyn Locke settled in and went to his go-to man, Smith-Njigba to get Rockwall on the board.
A punt and a JSN TD run tied the game. Another Prosper punt and a 53-yard JSN touchdown and the lead was gone by the midpoint of the second quarter.
All said an told, JSN simply dominated when his team needed it to the tune of 11 catches for 218 yards and 4 receiving scores; add in two rushing scores on the night, too.
Prosper hung tough with Rockwall in some stretches, but the scoring prowess of Rockwall was just too much to overcome, and Rockwall advances to meet Duncanville (14-0) next week in the state semifinals - time, date and location still to be determined.
4 Week 5 Knee-Jerk Reactions
The real season began for a lot of teams across the Metroplex while others were playing in possibly their second or third district game.
And as a reminder, these opinions are meant to be held within this singular moment in time and not carry over each week.
Shell Shocked
It was a tough break for Rockwall against Longview on Friday night. First play of the game: Jaxon Smith-Njigba gets hobbled a bit. A couple drives later: He's rocked, fumbled and out for the rest of the game. After that, Rockwall was a shell of its former self. It didn't crack 200 yards, only scored three times and Braedyn Locke looked like a sophomore in his first year of varsity football.
All Is Right With Dunne
I was buying a lot of stock in Fort Worth All Saints after last week's win over Parish Episcopal. Just a week later, the offense was held off the board and only got a safety. The hottest team in TAPPS was held well in check by Bishop Dunne, which entered into the game on a 2-game losing streak, so all seems right with the Falcons.
Frisco is For Real
Frisco Reedy was a the gem of 5A last year. A year later, that title belongs to Frisco, which edged past Reedy Friday night to remain undefeated. The talk across the Metroplex is that "Frisco is back." To steal a stat, Frisco has been over .500 in seven of the last eight years, so they've been here for a while, but they seem to be more legit than ever.

Simply unreal.
After getting 20 picks right last week, this week was another decrease in predictions, checking in at 16-8 this week. Overall, I'm 82-34 for a 70.7 percent clip.
