PHOTO GALLERY & HYPE VIDEO: Rowlett Volleyball gearing up for success
After a hard-fought season last year, the Rowlett Volleyball Lady Eagles are geared up and ready to get this season started. Focusing on what they can control on the court, the Lady Eagles have given it everything they have as they prepare for the season ahead. At a recent VYPE DFW Media Day for the Rowlett Volleyball team, VYPE got to talk to some of the varsity athletes about their season ahead. Check out an inside look below:
Going 17-15 overall last season and finishing 4th in their district with an 11-7 district record, the Lady Eagles were able to post big victories over some of their rivals like Frisco Panther Creek, Garland Namaan Forest, Terrell, South Garland, Garland Lakeview Centennial, and more. In an interview with setter Amanda Davila, libero Reese Davison, right side Saron Fanta, and middle blocker Alana Carr, each athlete agreed that one of their biggest strengths last season as a team was their overall chemistry and bond on and off the court. "Last season we learned a lot about starting early and finishing strong," Fanta started. "This season we'd like to learn from last season's strengths and weaknesses in order to make it to playoffs: the first round, second, and so on."
With a tough preseason schedule, the Lady Eagles are learning from every single moment. With tough fights against Frisco Panther Creek, Hallsville, and others, Rowlett is sharpening their skills and focusing on getting to district play where they plan on putting their hard work, dedication, and determination to the test. Working through their preseason schedule, the Lady Eagles are most looking forward to playing against Garland and Sachse this season. "Playing against Sachse is always a fun game even though they're a tougher team," said Carr regarding the upcoming district schedule.
Their next preseason game is Tuesday, August 15th against Sunnyvale while their district schedule begins with an away game against Wylie East on September 1st. Head coach Jessica Moss commented on the season ahead with a statement of her own:
"The 2023 season ahead is looking as HYPE as the video! Our players are coming with a fire and desire to WIN and to be the BEST. Every day we grow closer as a program and continue to sharpen our skillsets and volleyball IQ. Our returners and captains have taken on leadership roles on the court through running drills within their own teams and working to strengthen our sub-varsity teams. These players have also shown leadership off the court and in the classroom through their upstanding leadership and student-athlete commitments to bettering themselves as well as those around them. I am PROUD to be our program's leader yet another season!"
