HOOPS PREVIEW: Justin Northwest aims for a great season
Teams around the metroplex have been working hard this preseason to prepare for the road ahead comprised of district matchups. One of the teams looking to make an impact on the court this season is the Justin Northwest Texans basketball team. The Texans hope to improve after last season and do whatever it takes to make a playoff run. VYPE DFW dives into what fans can expect from the Texans this season.
A Look Back
Last season, the Northwest Texans had less than desirable results as they finished out their schedule. Posting a 10-21 overall record (2-12 in district play), the Texans put up a fight every time they stepped onto the court. The team posted victories over the likes of North Central Texas Academy, Dallas Adams, Dallas Skyline, Abilene Wylie, Hurst L.D. Bell, and more during their non-district schedule. The team's two district wins came against Denton and Lake Dallas.
2022-23
This season, the Texans have set goals for themselves to do better and learn from every moment. So far, Northwest has defeated Fort Worth Dunbar, Dallas Conrad, Denton Ryan, and more through non-district play. The offense has shown their ability to stay alert through games- scoring at every given opportunity- while the defense has helped supply momentum on the court.
The team has four non-district games left and can be expected to play hard through each one of them. Going head-to-head against Carrollton Newman Smith, Little Elm, Weatherford, and Waco Midway is sure to get the Texans sharpened and ready for battle in their district schedule.
Fans can expect to see the Texans work hard all season- in and out of game. The team has excellent chemistry on the court and will be looking to secure more wins as they go through the rest of the schedule. Be sure to catch them in action this season!
Ballin': Northwest Lady Texans continue to build upward
After a tough season in the 2019-2020 season, the Lady Texans used last season to rebuild, regroup, and get on the right track. The team was able to play strong throughout their entire schedule and head into the offseason with something to be proud of. This season, Northwest High School's girls basketball program looks to continue to build upward. VYPE DFW takes a look into the season so far and what's yet to come:
Last season, the Lady Texans were able to fight for a playoff appearance as the team went 16-12 overall. The Lady Texans finished fourth in their district with a 8-7 district record while posting big wins over the likes of Mineral Wells, Birdville, Denton, Richland, and more en route to the playoffs. The team made a first-round appearance, but fell to Wichita Falls Rider.
There's no doubt that a stronger season after a less-than-desirable season is something that would power a team to continue building back strong. The Lady Texans have done just that entering the 2021-2022 season. So far, the Lady Texans have posted a 12-5 overall record (2-1 in district play) with incredible wins over Frisco Wakeland, Aledo, Prosper Rock Hill, Euless Trinity, Grapevine, and more!
Although Northwest lost to Lake Dallas just before the holidays, fans can expect the Lady Texans to use this time to recharge and be ready for the rest of the season ahead. The Lady Texans will face-off against Richland as their first game back from the Holiday break where they expect to set the tone for the rest of the season ahead. If you're a fan of the Lady Texans, you can count on another strong push towards playoffs!
