Baton Rouge High's Logan Lewis wins prestigous Gatorade Louisiana girls track honor
By Robin Fambrough
Logan Lewis of Baton Rouge Magnet High won awards and set records as a high school shot put and discus competitor. The best award for Lewis may be the most recent one.
The Southern Mississippi signee was selected as the 2018-19 Gatorade Louisiana Girls Track & Field Athlete of the Year. Lewis is the second Baton Rouge High athlete chosen, joining former LSU sprints star Mikiah Brisco, who won it in 2013-14.
"I started throwing when I was 10 or 11 years old and the goal I set was to be good enough to go to college for free," Lewis said. "I've done that and I've learned that if you start with one goal and work at it, you can do much more.
"I am appreciative of all the awards and honors I've received. Winning this one puts me on lists with elite athletes, like Mikiah, and Lolo Jones (former LSU star hurdler). It makes me believe I can achieve even more."
The Gatorade award recognizes athletic excellence, academic achievement and exemplary character. Winning the Louisiana honor makes Lewis a finalist for the Gatorade National Girls Track & Field Athlete of the Year award to be announced later this month.
