VYPE to host Aldine ISD Holiday Hoops Classic presented by United States Marine Corps
A Holiday Hoops Classic is back in Aldine ISD.
After a few years' hiatus, VYPE Media has partnered with Aldine ISD to host the 2019 VYPE-Aldine ISD Holiday Hoops Classic presented by the United State Marine Corps on December 27 – 28.
"This is very exciting," Aldine ISD Athletic Director Dre' Thompson said. "We've been kind of dead for the last couple of years. To partner with a company like VYPE, I mean that's big for us. We can turn this into another big holiday classic and give the fans something to see over the holiday break."
The tournament will feature 16 boys' teams and 12 girls' teams with games to be played at Aldine Davis and MacArthur High School along with Aldine ISD's M.O. Campbell Center.
The girls and boy's championship games will be held at the Campbell Center on Saturday, December 28.
"VYPE is honored to partner with Aldine ISD on this fantastic event," VYPE Media Vice President of Sales & Events Derek Dusek said. "It's a great opportunity to align the VYPE brand with a tremendous school district. When the tournament was announced to area high schools, it immediately sold out. We anticipate the number of teams will double in size next year. We would also like to thank the United States Marine Corps for being the presenting sponsor."
8th Marine Corps District Communications Strategy and Operations Chief Gunnery Sergeant Jessica Smith said, "The Marines of Recruiting Station Houston are proud to work side by side with our local community and support the High School Varsity Athletes participating in the 2019 Holiday Hoops Classic. Marines are known for their fighting spirit and recognize that same spirit in the students who are competing in the tournament. We can't wait until the competition begins."
The field will consist of the boys' and girls' teams from Aldine ISD programs. Along with them some top programs competing include on the boys' side, The Woodlands Christian Academy, Cy-Fair, Katy Tompkins and Manvel.
On the girls' side, Lutheran High North, Clear Springs and George Ranch highlight that grouping.
"This is just the taste of it," Thompson said. "I tell people you'll see the affects of this next year and the years after that. We've got teams on hold that are waiting to play next year, so it's going to be really big. We're real excited about it."
